1. Citation

This Order may be cited as the University of Dar-es-Salaam (Declaration of Constituent College) (Ardhi Institute) Order.

2. Interpretation

In this Order unless the context require otherwise—"the College" means the University College of Lands and Architectural Studies declared by paragraph 3;"the effective date" means the 1st day of July, 1996;"the transitional period" means the period within which the College shall continue to be a Constituent College of the University.

3. Declaration of College Act, 1974 No. 35

The Ardhi Institute established by the Ardhi Institute Act, 1974 shall, with effect from the effective date become a Constituent College of the University of Dar-es-Salaam and shall, in that capacity, be known as the University College of Lands and Architectural Studies or when referred to in brief by the acronym "UCLAS".

4. College faculties

The College shall have—
(a)two faculties, namely—
(i)the Faculty of Architecture, Quantity Survey and Urban Planning; and
(ii)the Faculty of Land Surveying, Land Management and Evaluation and Environmental Engineering;
(b)one institute to be known as the Institute of Housing Studies and Building Research.

5. Administrative and academic management

From the effective date the College shall, during the transitional period, be under the nurturance by the University of Dar-es-Salaam during which period—
(a)all faculties shall report to the Senate;
(b)all academic appointment and senior administrative staff shall be regulated by the Appointments Committee for Academic and Administration Staff of the University Council;
(c)all staff development matters shall be regulated by the Staff Development Committee of the University Council;
(d)curricula of various programmes shall be submitted to the Academic Planning Committee and Senate for approval;
(e)all matters which were submitted to the Ardhi Institute Governing Council shall be transmitted to the University Council;
(f)all affairs of the Ardhi Institute students who are already admitted for but not yet completed their courses, shall be submitted to the Senate for determination.
