1. Citation

These Rules may be cited as the Wildlife Protection Fund Rules.

2. Interpretion

In these Rules, unless the context requires otherwise—"Act" means the Wildlife Conservation Act1;1Cap. 283"Board" means the Board of Trustees established by section 74 of the Act;"financial year" means a period not exceeding twelve consecutive months commencing from the 1st day of July each year.

3. Account of the Fund

(1)There shall be an account of the Fund into which all monies received in relation to the functions of the fund shall be paid, and from which payments in relation to the expenses of the fund shall be made.
(2)The Director shall be the chief executive officer of the Fund.
(3)The Fund shall not operate on commercial basis.

4. Use of monies and properties in the Fund

The monies and properties contained in the Fund shall be used—
(a)to purchase relevant materials and equipment for use by the Wildlife Protection Unit in anti-poaching operations;
(b)to facilitate payment of rewards to persons who give information leading to conviction in trophy cases;
(c)to facilitate payment of rewards to persons who give information leading to the recovery of Government trophies, vehicles, or crafts used in poaching operations;
(d)to faciliate payment in connection with emergency matters of investigation of trophy cases or any other relevant matters resulting in the recovery of Government trophies, vehicles or crafts used in poaching activities;
(e)subject to the approval of the Board, to facilitate payment of rewards to any person who acts in the cause of wildlife conservation;
(f)to facilitate payment of any other rewards that may be authorised by the Board.

5. Accounts and audit

The Director shall, within a period of four months of the end of each financial year, prepare, sign and transmit to the Board audited accounts detailing—
(a)receipts and payments of the Fund; and
(b)a balance sheet of the Fund.
